10-Day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climb + 3-Day Safari

Tour Overview

Experience the ultimate Tanzania adventure with this unforgettable combination of Mount Kilimanjaro trekking and wildlife safari. This carefully designed 10-day itinerary combines the scenic 7-day Lemosho Route climb with an exciting 3-day Tanzania Northern Circuit safari, offering the perfect balance of adventure, nature, and wildlife.

The Lemosho Route is widely considered one of the best routes on Mount Kilimanjaro due to its beautiful scenery, lower crowds, and excellent acclimatization profile. Beginning on the remote western side of the mountain, the trail passes through lush rainforest, open moorlands, alpine desert, and dramatic volcanic landscapes before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters — the highest point in Africa.

During the trek, climbers enjoy breathtaking views, professional mountain support, and a gradual ascent that increases summit success rates. The route also includes famous highlights such as the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Wall, and stunning sunrise views from the summit.

After successfully conquering Kilimanjaro, the adventure continues with a 3-day wildlife safari through some of Tanzania’s most iconic national parks. Explore Tarangire National Park, famous for its giant elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, descend into the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater to witness the Big Five in one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations, and discover the beauty of Lake Manyara National Park, known for its tree-climbing lions, flamingos, and diverse birdlife.

This Kilimanjaro climbing and safari package is ideal for travelers looking to experience both Africa’s highest mountain and Tanzania’s spectacular wildlife in one seamless journey. With experienced guides, quality accommodations, and carefully planned logistics, this package delivers an authentic and unforgettable East African adventure.

This day is important for rest, hydration, and mental preparation before beginning your Kilimanjaro ascent.

After breakfast, you will continue your trek as the rainforest slowly fades behind you and the scenery opens into the beautiful moorland zone. The trail gradually climbs higher, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes and Mount Kilimanjaro ahead.

Along the way, you will pass Shira 1 Camp and continue trekking across the stunning Shira Plateau, one of the most scenic areas on the mountain. The route is steady and rewarding, with open plains, volcanic rock formations, and unique alpine vegetation creating an unforgettable hiking experience.

As you gain altitude, the air becomes cooler and the landscape more dramatic. Upon arrival at Shira 2 Camp, you will have time to relax, enjoy a warm meal, and take in the spectacular mountain views while your body continues adjusting to the altitude.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This is one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek. You ascend to Lava Tower, a dramatic volcanic rock formation located at high altitude.

After lunch near Lava Tower, you descend to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps improve acclimatization and increases summit success.

Barranco Camp sits in a beautiful valley below the famous Barranco Wall.

Hiking Time: 6–7 Hours

Approach to the Final Base Camp

After breakfast, you will continue your ascent toward Barafu Camp, the last stop before your summit attempt on Mount Kilimanjaro.

The trail becomes more rugged and exposed as you enter the alpine desert zone. Vegetation is sparse, and the landscape feels more dramatic and remote, with wide views stretching across the mountain slopes.

Barafu Camp serves as your final preparation point before the midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Upon arrival, your camp will already be set up by the support team, allowing you to settle in immediately.

Here, you will rest, hydrate, and have an early dinner while your guides prepare you for the most important and challenging part of the climb. It is strongly recommended to sleep early and conserve energy, as the summit attempt begins late at night.

Day 6: Night Ascent to Uhuru Peak, Then Descent to Millennium Camp
  • Distance Covered: Approx. 15 km (9.3 miles)

  • Hiking Time: 8–12 hours

  • Accommodation: Millennium Camp

  • Meals: Light snacks before summit, Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Summit Attempt & Descent Day

In the middle of the night, you will begin your final ascent from Barafu Camp toward Mount Kilimanjaro summit—Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

The climb is not technically difficult, but the high altitude and cold conditions make it physically demanding. Progress is slow and steady, with frequent short breaks to help you conserve energy. Each pair of climbers is supported by an experienced personal summit guide who closely monitors your pace, health, and comfort throughout the ascent.

As dawn approaches, you will reach Stella Point and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, where you will have time to celebrate your achievement and take photos at the summit of Africa.

After spending a short time at the top, you will begin your descent back to Barafu Camp for a brief rest and hot drinks. Following a short recovery stop, you will continue descending further down to Millennium Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and a well-earned rest after an unforgettable summit day.

Day 7: Millennium Camp (3,820m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m) to Mweka Gate (1630m) to Moshi (Kibo View Farm Lodge)
  • Distance Covered: Approx. 10 km

  • Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi – Kibo View Farm Lodge

  • Meals: Breakfast

Final Descent, Certificates & Celebration

After spending the night at Millennium Camp, you will enjoy breakfast surrounded by the lush rainforest before starting your final descent toward Mount Kilimanjaro’s exit point at Mweka Gate.

The trail takes you through beautiful tropical forest with fresh air, birdsong, and a peaceful atmosphere as you gradually leave the mountain behind. The descent is steady and rewarding, marking the final stage of your journey to the highest peak in Africa.

Upon arrival at Mweka Gate, your trekking team will gather to celebrate your successful climb. Here, you will sign the guestbook, receive your official summit certificate, and take memorable photos with your guides and crew.

After the celebration, you will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi at Kibo View Farm Lodge. The rest of the day is yours to relax and recover—enjoy a hot shower, a comfortable bed, and a well-deserved meal after your incredible achievement on Kilimanjaro. Our team will also assist you with any onward travel arrangements.

Day 8: Moshi to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your safari adventure begins with a drive to Tarangire National Park.

  • Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 9: Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, you will depart for the world-famous Serengeti National Park.

The drive takes you through the beautiful Ngorongoro Highlands before entering the endless plains of the Serengeti. Wildlife viewing begins immediately upon entering the park, as the Serengeti is home to one of the largest concentrations of animals in Africa.

The Serengeti is most famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, where millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles move across the plains in search of fresh grazing. The park is also renowned for its large population of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas.

During your game drive, you may witness dramatic wildlife interactions while enjoying the breathtaking landscapes that have made the Serengeti one of the most iconic safari destinations in the world.

After a packed lunch and extensive game viewing, you will continue to your tented camp for dinner and overnight stay inside the park.

  • Main Destination: Serengeti National Park
  • Driving Distance: Approx. 250 km

After breakfast, you will continue with a morning game drive in the Serengeti, giving you another opportunity to explore this incredible ecosystem and search for wildlife you may not have seen the previous day.

The early morning hours are often one of the best times for wildlife activity, especially predators. Your guide will carefully track animal movements and position the vehicle for the best viewing and photography opportunities.

Later in the day, you will begin your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area while enjoying an en-route game drive through the Serengeti plains.

As you leave the Serengeti behind, the scenery changes dramatically from open grasslands to lush green highlands. Upon arrival at your lodge, you can relax and enjoy the cooler temperatures and beautiful surroundings.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations and is often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Formed millions of years ago after a giant volcano collapsed, the crater now shelters an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within its towering walls.

This is one of the best places in Tanzania to see the endangered black rhino as well as lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, hyenas, wildebeests, and many other species. The crater floor also contains lakes, swamps, forests, and open plains, creating a diverse and beautiful environment for wildlife.

After enjoying a picnic lunch inside the crater and completing your game drive, you will ascend from the crater and return to Arusha where your safari adventure comes to an end.
