Tanzania Safari & Mountain Climbs — Summit Africa & Witness Its Wildlife

QUICK NAVIGATION

Tanzania Safari & Kilimanjaro Climb | Combined Safari & Trek Packages

Tanzania is one of the few places on earth where a single trip can take you to the summit of a continent and into the heart of its greatest wildlife wilderness. Climb Kilimanjaro—Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 metres — and then unwind on a tailor-made safari through the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. Two of the world’s greatest outdoor experiences, back to back, on the same journey.

Nyange Adventures is Tanzania’s leading operator for both components. With a 98.5% Kilimanjaro summit success rate and over a decade of safari expertise, we are uniquely positioned to design your combined climb-and-safari adventure from end to end.

Why Combine a Safari with a Kilimanjaro Climb?

The combination makes perfect logistical and experiential sense. Kilimanjaro and Tanzania’s Northern Circuit parks are in the same region of northern Tanzania — Moshi and Arusha are the gateway cities for both. You fly into one airport, complete your climb, and seamlessly transition to your safari without any need to return home in between.

Beyond the logistics, the contrast is part of what makes this combination so powerful. After 7–9 days of high-altitude trekking through moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit conditions, descending to the golden savanna of the Serengeti to watch lion prides at sunset from the comfort of a 4×4 feels like the most perfect reward imaginable.

Why our combination packages work:

  • One specialist operator manages both the climb and the safari seamlessly
  • KINAPA-certified guides for the mountain; expert wildlife guides for the bush
  • Rest days built between the climb and safari to allow proper recovery
  • Logistics fully coordinated — accommodation, transport, park fees, and equipment
  • Flexible order: climb first (recommended) or safari first, depending on your preference
  • 98.5% Kilimanjaro summit success rate — the best possible start to your Tanzania adventure

Your Kilimanjaro Climb Routes

Kilimanjaro can be approached via six main routes, each offering a different experience in terms of scenery, duration, and difficulty. Nyange Adventures operates guided expeditions on all six:

Lemosho Route (7–8 days) — Our most recommended route. Offers exceptional scenery, superior acclimatization, and a remote western approach away from crowds. Highest success rate of all routes.

Machame Route (6–7 days) — Known as the “Whiskey Route” for its challenging nature. Scenic and popular, with good acclimatization and strong summit success rates. Ideal for physically fit climbers.

Marangu Route (5–6 days) — The only route with permanent hut accommodation rather than tents. The most accessible in terms of comfort, but shorter acclimatization means summit success rates are lower. Best suited to budget-conscious travelers.

Rongai Route (6–7 days) — Approaches from the north, near the Kenyan border. The driest route on the mountain, with excellent summit-night conditions and good wildlife sightings in the lower forest zones.

Umbwe Route (5–6 days) — The steepest, most direct route. Recommended only for highly experienced trekkers with good high-altitude knowledge. Not recommended for first-time Kilimanjaro climbers.

Northern Circuit Route (9 days) — The longest and most scenic route, circumnavigating nearly the entire mountain. The highest summit success rate of all routes due to extended acclimatisation time.

All climbs are led by KINAPA-certified senior guides with years of high-altitude experience. Our mountain crews carry supplemental oxygen, comprehensive first aid equipment, and pulse oximeters for daily health monitoring.

Your Post-Climb Safari

After your descent and a recovery day in Moshi or Arusha, your safari begins. Most guests opt for a 3–5 day Northern Circuit safari covering:

  • Tarangire National Park — elephant herds and baobab trees
  • Lake Manyara National Park — flamingo, tree-climbing lions, and forest primates
  • Ngorongoro Conservation Area — the world’s greatest natural amphitheatre
  • Serengeti National Park — Big Five, cheetah, and the Great Migration

Extended post-climb safaris of 7–10 days are also available, including visits to Ruaha or Selous for Southern Tanzania wildlife experiences.

Honeymoon Safari Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything couples need to know about planning a Tanzania honeymoon safari with Nyange Adventures.

We recommend a minimum of 8–10 days for a honeymoon combining the safari and Zanzibar. This typically means 5–6 nights on safari across 2–3 parks, followed by 3–4 nights on Zanzibar. Couples with more time — 12–14 days — often tell us it was still not quite long enough. Tanzania has a tendency to do that.

Not at all. A safari is primarily a vehicle-based experience — you sit comfortably in your private 4×4, and your guide does the driving and guiding. Optional walking activities and hot air balloon safaris add adventure if you want them. For couples who prefer a completely relaxed pace, we will design accordingly.

Yes — a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti at dawn is one of the most breathtaking experiences available anywhere in Africa, and it is a favourite honeymoon enhancement. The flight typically lasts about an hour and concludes with a champagne bush breakfast. We recommend booking this well in advance as capacity is limited.

There are several outstanding options depending on your budget and preferences — from small, exclusive camps sleeping only 8–16 guests with a focus on privacy and immersion, to larger, well-established lodges with excellent facilities and spa treatments. Our specialists will recommend specific properties based on your honeymoon goals and the time of year you travel.

Absolutely. Zanzibar alone makes a wonderful honeymoon destination and we can arrange a full Zanzibar beach and cultural itinerary. That said, the vast majority of couples who add a safari tell us it transformed their honeymoon from wonderful to truly life-changing.

Yes — our honeymoon safari framework applies equally well to anniversary trips and vow renewals. We have arranged many extraordinary celebrations in the African bush and on Zanzibar's beaches. Just let us know the occasion and we will make it special.
