7-Day Kilimanjaro Trekking - Lemosho Route

Tour Overview

The 9-Day Kilimanjaro Trekking – Lemosho Route offers one of the best trekking experiences on Mount Kilimanjaro, combining excellent acclimatization, breathtaking scenery, and a high summit success rate. This itinerary includes one overnight stay before the climb and one overnight stay after the climb at Kibo View Farm Lodge, making your journey more comfortable and well-paced.

The Lemosho Route is widely considered the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro. It begins on the remote western side of the mountain and passes through lush rainforest, giant heather moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit zone before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft) — the highest point in Africa.

Trekkers enjoy incredible views of Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Wall, Karanga Valley, and the famous Stella Point before reaching the summit. The route offers a gradual ascent profile, which greatly improves acclimatization and increases summit success.

This package is ideal for climbers looking for a well-organized, scenic, and successful Kilimanjaro trekking adventure with professional mountain guides, quality camping equipment, and comfortable lodge stays before and after the expedition.

7-Day Lemosho Route Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Moshi – Overnight at Kibo View Farm Lodge

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to Kibo View Farm Lodge in Moshi for your pre-climb overnight stay.

Located in a peaceful environment with beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the lodge offers the perfect place to relax and prepare for your adventure. In the evening, you will meet your mountain guide for a full trek briefing, equipment check, and final preparations for the climb.

This day is important for rest, hydration, and mental preparation before beginning your Kilimanjaro ascent.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration and permit formalities. From here, continue by vehicle to the Lemosho trailhead, where your trek officially begins.

The hike starts through dense montane rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and a variety of bird species. The trail is gentle and scenic, offering a peaceful introduction to the mountain.

You will arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (“Big Tree Camp”) in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours

Elevation: 2,100m (6,890ft) to 2,780m (9,120ft)

Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp

Accommodation Type: Mountain Camping

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail enters the heather and moorland zone with beautiful views of the Shira Ridge and surrounding plains.

The climb becomes steeper as you ascend onto the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world. The scenery changes dramatically, with giant lobelias and volcanic landscapes creating a unique trekking experience.

Arrival at Shira 1 Camp is usually in the afternoon.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today is a shorter hiking day designed for acclimatization. You cross the scenic Shira Plateau with wide-open views and dramatic landscapes.

The trail is relatively gentle, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude while enjoying the beauty of Kilimanjaro’s western side.

You arrive early at Shira 2 Camp, giving you time to rest and prepare for higher elevations.

Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours

Elevation: 3,500m (11,483ft) to 3,850m (12,631ft)

Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This is one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek. You ascend to Lava Tower, a dramatic volcanic rock formation located at high altitude.

After lunch near Lava Tower, you descend to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps improve acclimatization and increases summit success.

Barranco Camp sits in a beautiful valley below the famous Barranco Wall.

Hiking Time: 6–7 Hours

Elevation: 3,850m (12,631ft) to 4,630m (15,190ft) then down to 3,960m (12,992ft)

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

The day begins with climbing the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting and rewarding sections of the route. It looks challenging but is safe and manageable with guide support.

After reaching the top, the trail continues through valleys and ridges with spectacular views of glaciers and the southern ice fields.

You arrive at Karanga Camp in the afternoon.

After celebrating your achievement and taking photos at the summit, you descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a short rest. The descent continues through alpine terrain to Mweka Gate, where your vehicle awaits.
