8-Day Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Safari

Trip Overview

Experience the very best of East Africa on this exclusive 8-day Kenya and Tanzania luxury safari, designed for discerning travelers who want world-class wildlife encounters paired with premium comfort and service. Beginning in Nairobi, Kenya, this carefully curated itinerary takes you through three of Africa’s most iconic and celebrated safari destinations — the Masai Mara, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater — before concluding in Arusha, Tanzania’s vibrant safari capital.

Spend Days 1 through 3 in the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s crown jewel of wildlife conservation. Here, vast open savannah teems with the Big Five, resident cheetahs, and the spectacle of the Great Wildebeest Migration — one of the greatest wildlife events on Earth. On Day 4, cross the border into Tanzania and enter the boundless Serengeti National Park, where endless golden plains stretch to the horizon and lions, leopards, and cheetahs reign supreme. Days 4 through 6 offer immersive full-day game drives across the Serengeti’s diverse ecosystems, with optional hot air balloon safaris and visits to the historic Olduvai Gorge. The journey reaches its dramatic climax on Days 7 and 8 at the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater — the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the densest concentration of wildlife on the planet, including the rare black rhino and enormous tusked elephants.

Throughout this 8-day luxury safari, every detail is taken care of — from expert-guided game drives and gourmet bush dining to lavish lodge and tented camp accommodations that bring you close to nature without compromising on comfort or style.

Day-by-Day Itinerary: 8-Day Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Safari

Day 1 : Masai Mara National Reserve

Begin your day with an early morning drive to the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most celebrated and beloved wildlife destinations. The Mara remains one of the last places on Earth where wildlife roams freely in numbers that reflect Africa’s untamed past — a rare and humbling reminder of the continent’s natural heritage. As the northern extension of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Masai Mara is world-famous for hosting the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of nature’s most breathtaking spectacles, where massive herds of wildebeest and zebras thunder across the plains pursued closely by lions, cheetahs, and other predators.

Arrive in time for lunch, then head out for an exhilarating afternoon game drive across the Mara’s sweeping golden grasslands and riverine forests. End the day with dinner and a restful overnight stay at your luxury camp.

Main Destination: Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Accommodation: Amani Mara Camp — a premium luxury tented camp situated just outside the Masai Mara National Reserve, offering an intimate and authentic bush experience.

  • Meals included: Lunch & Dinner (Breakfast not included)
  • Drinking water included (Other drinks not included)
Day 2-3: Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive deep into the heart of the Masai Mara, with a packed lunch enjoyed out in the bush. The Mara is legendary for its black-maned lions—among the most majestic in all of Africa—and consistently ranks as one of the best places on Earth to spot the Big Five in a single morning’s game drive. The reserve’s cheetah population is equally remarkable; many are so relaxed around safari vehicles that they seek shade beneath them or boldly climb onto the roof for a better vantage point over their prey—delivering truly unforgettable, up-close wildlife encounters.

Birdwatching in the Masai Mara is equally spectacular, with nearly 500 recorded bird species calling the reserve home. Highlights include 16 species of eagle, numerous hawks and falcons, 6 vulture species, 8 stork species, 9 sunbird species, and the iconic Kori Bustard—the world’s heaviest flying bird—making this a paradise for birding enthusiasts of every level.

Return to camp for dinner and a well-deserved overnight stay beneath the African stars.

Day 4: From Masai Mara to Serengeti

Begin your day with an exhilarating early morning game drive through the Masai Mara, making the most of the golden morning light as you traverse the reserve on your way out. After completing border formalities at the Isebania crossing, continue south into Tanzania and on to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park —one of the greatest wildlife destinations on the planet.

En route, take the opportunity to stop at the legendary Olduvai Gorge, one of the most significant paleoanthropological sites in the world. It was here that the pioneering work of Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey uncovered fossil evidence of some of the earliest human ancestors to walk the Earth—a discovery that fundamentally changed our understanding of human evolution. Enjoy a short but fascinating lecture on the gorge’s remarkable geology and ongoing archaeological excavations, then browse the informative on-site museum at your own pace.

While today involves a longer drive, the game drives through both the Masai Mara and the Serengeti along the way can yield spectacular and surprising wildlife sightings—making every kilometer of the journey worthwhile. Arrive at your luxury lodge in time for dinner and a restful overnight stay deep inside the Serengeti.

Main Destination: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Accommodation: Meliá Serengeti Lodge — an exceptional luxury lodge nestled inside the Central Serengeti National Park, offering world-class comfort in the heart of the wilderness.

  • Meals included: All meals

Day 5-6: Serengeti National Park

Enjoy two full days of unlimited game drives across the breathtaking Serengeti National Park, with a completely flexible schedule that allows you to explore at your own pace and follow the wildlife wherever it leads. As you crest the crater highlands and the landscape opens up before you, the sheer scale of the Serengeti is immediately humbling — a seemingly infinite expanse of golden savannah stretching as far as the eye can see. It is no surprise that Serengeti translates to “endless plains” in Kiswahili.

Spanning an immense 18,000 sq km (6,900 sq miles), the Serengeti is home to more than 2 million large animals, including over a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and vast herds of Thomson’s gazelles perpetually on the move across the ecosystem. This extraordinary abundance of prey draws Africa’s most formidable large predators — lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas — creating non-stop predator-prey drama across the plains. The park is equally rich in smaller but equally fascinating wildlife, including rock hyrax, bat-eared fox, mongoose, honey badger, jackal, vervet monkey, baboon, and African hare. With nearly 500 recorded bird species, the Serengeti is also a world-class birdwatching destination not to be overlooked.

In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic game drive en route to your lodge, soaking in the last of the day’s golden light over the endless plains before settling in for dinner under a canopy of stars.

Accommodation: Meliá Serengeti Lodge — an outstanding luxury lodge located in the heart of Central Serengeti National Park, combining exceptional wildlife access with world-class hospitality.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro

Rise before dawn for an early morning game drive through the Serengeti—the best time of day to catch predators on the hunt and witness one of the most spectacular sunrises you will ever experience, with golden light flooding across the endless plains. Return to camp for a well-earned brunch before setting off toward your next extraordinary destination—the Ngorongoro Crater, widely regarded as the 8th Wonder of the Natural World.

Few places on Earth can rival the sheer magnificence of the Ngorongoro Crater. With walls soaring 2,000 feet high and a crater floor spanning 102 square miles, this ancient volcanic caldera is a self-contained world unto itself—a true Noah’s Ark sheltering virtually every wildlife species indigenous to East Africa within its dramatic walls. It is one of the only places on the entire African continent where you have a genuine chance of spotting the critically endangered black rhino in the wild, making every game drive here especially thrilling.

The crater’s remarkably diverse landscape encompasses a winding river, several lush swamps, vast open plains, dense montane forest, and a glittering soda lake fringed with thousands of flamingos. The resident elephant population is equally legendary — the bulls here carry some of the largest tusks in the world, nourished by the crater’s uniquely mineral-rich volcanic soils. Arrive at the crater rim in time for a breathtaking sundowner, watching the African sun dip below the crater walls as the evening sky ignites with color — a perfect and unforgettable end to an extraordinary day.

Accommodation upgrade options are available to enhance your crater rim experience.

Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Wake early for one final, unforgettable adventure as you descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for an extraordinary morning of wildlife viewing in one of the most stunning and wildlife-rich environments on Earth. Spend the morning tracking lions, observing black rhinos, and watching enormous elephant bulls roam the crater floor — all framed by the towering ancient walls of this magnificent caldera. Break for a memorable picnic lunch beside the hippo lake, where wallowing hippos, wading birds, and shimmering flamingos create a truly magical scene. Enjoy a final short game drive through the crater before making the ascent back up the steep crater walls and bidding farewell to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

From there, transfer to Arusha, Tanzania’s vibrant northern safari hub, with an expected arrival of around 5:00 PM. The schedule remains fully flexible to accommodate any flight departures or onward travel arrangements, ensuring a smooth and stress-free end to your journey.

This concludes your 8-Day Kenya & Tanzania Luxury Safari — an extraordinary journey through some of Africa’s most iconic and breathtaking wilderness destinations.
