4-Day Northern Circuit Mid-Range Lodge Safari

Trip Overview

This 4-day safari is perfect for travelers with limited time who still want to experience the highlights of Tanzania’s famous national parks.

You will explore Tarangire National Park, known for its large herds of elephants and iconic baobab trees. Continue to Lake Manyara National Park, a beautiful destination famous for its rich birdlife and the unique tree-climbing lions.

The journey also includes a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife areas, where you will have the chance to see the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and the endangered black rhinoceros.

This tour offers a well-balanced safari experience, combining diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and comfortable lodge accommodation.

Day-by-Day Itinerary: 4-Day Northern Circuit Mid-Range Lodge Safari

Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at either Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), our representative will be on hand to welcome you and transfer you to your accommodation in Arusha. You’ll spend the night at the Mtoni River Lodge, a stunning property nestled at the base of Mount Meru in the heart of Arusha city.

Accommodation: Mtoni River Lodge

Meal Plan: Bed & Breakfast

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will depart for Tarangire National Park.

The park is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through the area and serves as the main water source for wildlife during the dry season. Often referred to as the “river of warthogs,” it attracts a wide variety of animals, especially when other water sources are scarce.

Tarangire is characterized by a mix of dense vegetation, including elephant grass, acacia woodlands, and lush groundwater forests. The park is particularly famous for its large elephant populations, often seen gathering along the riverbanks in family groups.

You may also encounter giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, while predators such as lions and leopards are frequently seen following the herds. Tarangire is also a paradise for bird lovers, with more breeding bird species recorded here than in almost any other place on Earth.

After lunch and a rewarding game drive, you will continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Highlands, arriving at Eileen’s Tree Inn for dinner and an overnight stay.

Main Destination: Tarangire National Park
Accommodation: Eileen’s Tree Inn (Ngorongoro Highlands)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive.

When you first arrive, the crater appears like a hidden world, enclosed by steep volcanic walls. Inside, you will find a beautiful and untouched landscape made up of open savannah, acacia woodlands, and sparkling lakes and swamps.

The Ngorongoro Crater was formed when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed, creating this unique natural wonder. Today, it is one of the most remarkable wildlife areas in Africa, known for having one of the highest concentrations of animals on the continent.

As you descend into the crater, you will begin to see large numbers of wildlife, including wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. The crater also offers one of the best chances to spot the endangered black rhinoceros, often seen grazing in the open plains.

A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site inside the crater. After your game drive, you will ascend and return to your lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and an overnight stay at Eileen’s Tree Inn.

Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater
Accommodation: Eileen’s Tree Inn (Ngorongoro Highlands)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

After an early breakfast, you will depart for Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park located about 120 km west of Arusha.

The park is named after the shallow alkaline lake that covers a large part of the area. This soda lake changes with the seasons and is home to thousands of flamingos, along with over 500 other bird species, making it a great destination for bird lovers.

During your game drive, you may see a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, and elephants. With a bit of luck, you might also spot the famous tree-climbing lions resting in the branches.

Lake Manyara is known for its beautiful and varied landscapes, from open grassy plains to lush woodlands filled with primates, as well as cliffs dotted with baobab trees.

After lunch, you will begin your drive back to Arusha, marking the end of your safari adventure. You will arrive in time for your flight back home or your onward flight to Zanzibar.
