Itinerary

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), our friendly driver will be waiting for you just outside customs control, holding a Nyange Adventure sign with your name on it. They’ll assist you with your luggage and whisk you comfortably to your Moshi hotel.

At the hotel, your expert guide will conduct a pre-climb briefing to answer any questions you have and provide important details about the trek. This includes an equipment check to ensure you have everything for a safe and comfortable climb. Don’t worry if you’re missing something! Good quality gear can be rented locally at reasonable prices. If you arrive at night, the briefing and equipment check might be scheduled for the following morning. With everything prepared, you can relax in Moshi, ready to embark on your exciting Kilimanjaro challenge!

Day 1 begins at Rongai Gate, the entrance to Kilimanjaro’s north side. You will start by walking through fields where farmers grow corn and potatoes. Then, the path dives into a cool rainforest! Here, you might see black and white monkeys swinging in the trees. The trail is soft and mossy, feeling like a secret adventure path. After lunch, the trek gets steeper as you climb into a thicker forest. Finally, you will reach First Cave Camp, your home for the night. From here, you may see amazing views stretching out towards Kenya! As the sun goes down, you will be settled in your tent, excited to start climbing higher tomorrow.

Day 2 features a steady climb to Second Cave Camp for lunch. Continue through vast moorland offering stunning views of majestic Mawenzi Peak. Capture incredible photos of Kibo Peak if skies are clear. Enjoy a gentle afternoon stroll across the moorland to your campsite at Kikelelwa Camp – a perfect spot to relax under the stars.

Today’s hike is short but steeper, following a grassy trail. The scenery transforms into a fascinating alpine desert zone. After a few hours, you’ll reach Mawenzi Tarn Hut, nestled beneath the jagged peaks of Mawenzi. Spend the afternoon soaking in the views, exploring, or relaxing before dinner.

Enjoy a well-deserved rest day! Feeling adventurous? Choose a challenging hike up scree slopes towards Mawenzi Peak or a gentler climb to the ridge or lunar desert. Return to the hut for lunch and relaxation.

After breakfast, trek across the lunar-like landscape between Mawenzi and Kibo Saddle. Prepare to be amazed by stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s summit as you gain altitude. Finally, you’ll reach Kibo Hut, where preparations for your midnight summit push begin!

Big day! You’ll hike northwest on rocky paths, reaching Hans Meyer Cave and Gillman’s Point. This is tough, so listen to your guides! After a short rest, conquer the final stretch along the rim for an hour. Then – boom! Uhuru Peak, the “Roof of Africa” awaits! Celebrate at the top, then descend to Kibo Huts for rest. Later, you’ll head down to Horombo Huts for a hot dinner and sleep. You’re amazing!

After a breakfast, you will conquer the last part of the trek – a scenic stroll through the forest, leading you back to Marangu Gate. Here, those of you who reached Gillman’s Point or Uhuru Peak will be awarded certificates, a tangible reminder of your incredible feat!

But the celebration doesn’t end there! Join your fellow trekkers and mountain crew for a joyous farewell party at Nyange Farm. Share stories by a crackling bonfire, savor delicious Tanzanian cuisine, and plant a tree – a lasting symbol of your Kilimanjaro triumph! This unforgettable experience will mark the end of your Rongai Route adventure, leaving you with memories to cherish forever.
