This is the perfect combination of a Tanzania chimpanzee Safari bush and beach retreat.

Travel off the beaten track to one of Tanzania’s most remote destinations and enjoy that feeling of having Africa all to yourself. Katavi National Park is Tanzania’s third largest national park and games drives will include encounters with some of Tanzania’s largest concentrations of hippo, crocodile and buffalo. Visit between May and June to catch migratory birds. Highlights of this safari include game drives, bush lunches or breakfasts and sundowners around a campfire. Add on an optional Night Game Drive or book a private vehicle for a more exclusive safari experience.

With the only lodge in the park, Mbali Mbali allows you to explore the smallest of Tanzania’s national parks. Gombe Stream National Park is a fragile strip of chimpanzee habitat that straddles the steep slopes and river valleys that hem the northern shores of Lake Tanganyika. It’s chimpanzees, habituated to human visitors, were made famous by the pioneering work of Jane Goodall who in the 1960’s founded a behavioral research program that now stands as the longest-running study of its kind in the world.

Kigoma is the largest town on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. Take some time to explore the hustle and bustle, take in a historical tour and visit Stanley and Livingstone’s meeting place, or learn more about the Kigoma way of life by visiting the local fish markets. You can also pass through the port and catch a glimpse of the MV. Liemba, now a passenger and cargo ferry, which was previously used by the Germans to patrol the lake.

Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha Town
Whatever your arrival time at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver guide from our office will be there waiting for you with a warm welcoming smile, relax in your comfortable vehicle as he takes you to your hotel in Arusha. On your journey to the hotel, you will get a brief impression of this large, bustling, commercial city. Depending on your arrival time you may either meet with your Safari expert today for briefing or tomorrow before you start your Safari. Dinner and Overnight at Zawadi House Lodge or Similar Accommodation

Day 2: Arusha - Transfer to the Airport - Katavi National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Katavi National Park THURSDAY - Morning Shared Charter Flight from Arusha Airport to Katavi Airstrip. Vehicle transfer to the lodge combined with game drives (if time allows). Staff welcome and introductions followed by lunch. Afternoon/early evening game drives (if time allows). Evening sundowners, dinner, and overnight at the Mbali Mbali Katavi lodge. Shared Charter Flights operate on Mondays and Thursdays only.

Day 3 - 5: Full Day Game Drive Katavi National Park
(FRIDAY - SUNDAY) After breakfast, depart the lodge for your morning game drive at the Katavi National Park. Return to the lodge for brunch/early lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Afternoon/early evening game drive. Evening sundowner, dinner, and overnight at the Mbali Mbali Katavi lodge.

Day 6: Katavi National Park - Flight to Kigoma Airport
MONDAY - After breakfast, morning vehicle transfer to Katavi Airstrip combined with game drive (if time allows). Shared Charter Flight from Katavi Airstrip to Kigoma Airport. Airport transfer from Kigoma Airport to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel. Dhow boat transfer (approx. 1.5 hours) to the lodge. Staff welcome and introductions followed by lunch. Afternoon/early evening chimpanzee trekking or forest walks (if time allows). Evening sundowners, dinner and overnight at the Kigoma Hill Top Hotel period. Shared Charter Flights operate on Mondays and Thursdays only.

Day 7: Half Day Chimpanzee Trekking & Leisure
TUESDAY - After breakfast, depart for morning chimpanzee trekking. Return to the lodge for hot lunch. Afternoon at leisure perhaps to kayak. Book an optional Boat Safari. Evening sundowners, dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 8: Dhow Boat Transfer to Kigoma Town
WEDNESDAY - After breakfast, morning dhow boat transfer (approx. 1.5 hours) to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel. Spend your afternoon at leisure perhaps by the swimming pool and then have dinner at the hotel restaurant. Overnight at Kigoma Hilltop Hotel.

Day 9: Fly Back to Arusha Or Kilimanjaro Airport
THURSDAY - After breakfast, proceed on an airport transfer to Kigoma Airport. Depart with Shared Charter Flight to Arusha Airport (ARK) or Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) with packed lunch. End of services. Shared Charter Flights operate on Mondays and Thursdays only.
