Starting Early

• Sometimes, we have to start early in the morning.
• This is either to have the best game viewing or to avoid traffic in the morning on long travel days.
• Most park fees are for 24 hour periods and at times we have to schedule carefully so not to be required to pay an extra fee for being a little late to exit the park.

How Long We Drive

• Our itineraries are set so the drive/guide will drive for no more 9-10 hours each day.
• This includes both time on game drives and time when we’re not traveling through a game viewing area.
• At times, the ideal number of driving hours can be extended by an hour if needed, but it is exhausting to the extent of not being safe for the driver/guide to drive more than 11 hours in a day.

Rules During Game Drives

• When we’re on game drives, we have to follow the rules of each park or reserve.
• Some parks don’t allow us to drive off the designated roads.
• Parks have restrictions on how many vehicles can stopped in one place observing animals.

Off-Roading

• Off-road driving (going off the roads) is not allowed in many popular parks.
• If you want to do off-road driving, we suggest going to private conservancies in places like Masai Mara and other locations in Kenya.

Changing Guides

• We try to keep the same guide throughout your safari in one country. If you have an itinerary involving more than one country, you will have different guides for each country.
• If in the middle of your itinerary, there is a flight to a new safari destination, you will have a different guide and vehicle for logistic reasons.

Physical Fitness

• You don’t need to be super fit for safaris, but you should be able to move around comfortably.
• Be sure to bring any necessary medications and inform your safari guide about any physical condition that you have.

Travel Times

• Pay attention to the estimated travel times in your itinerary.
• Sometimes, because of weather or road conditions, we might need to take a different route, which can make the travel time longer.
• If you don’t see travel times in your itinerary, ask your sales consultant for them.
