3 Days Chimpanzee Trek in Gombe

Your adventure begins with a pick‑up from Kigoma Airport or your hotel in town. From there, you’ll be transferred to Kibirizi Port and board a boat across the sparkling waters of Lake Tanganyika. The ride itself is scenic, with views of fishing villages and forested hills. Upon arrival at Gombe Stream National Park, you’ll check in at either Kasekela Tented Camp or Gombe Forest Lodge. After lunch by the lakeshore, you’ll set out on your first trek into the forest. This afternoon walk introduces you to the park’s terrain and gives you the chance to track chimpanzee families. Along the way, you may also encounter colobus monkeys, baboons, and red‑tailed monkeys before returning for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

After an early breakfast, you’ll head back into the forest for another trek. The highlight is spending up to an hour observing chimpanzees in their natural habitat, maintaining a safe distance while watching their social interactions. Later, you can hike to Jane Goodall’s Peak, a vantage point offering sweeping views of the park and Lake Tanganyika. Wildlife sightings may include forest birds and wild pigs, adding variety to the experience. After lunch, you’ll visit the Jane Goodall Research Center to learn about ongoing conservation work and the history of chimpanzee studies in Gombe. The afternoon is free to relax by the lake before dinner and overnight at camp.

Your last morning begins with one more chimpanzee tracking excursion, giving you a final chance to observe these remarkable primates. A short nature walk follows, allowing you to explore the forest’s flora and smaller wildlife. After brunch at the lodge, you’ll check out and take the boat back across Lake Tanganyika to Kigoma. From there, you’ll be transferred to the airport or your hotel, concluding your three‑day adventure in Gombe National Park.
